South Korean conservatives are behaving arrogantly in a bid to reverse the trend of inter-Korean reconciliation provided thanks to the proactive efforts of the DPRK.

The clan of the Liberal Korea Party viciously slandered the epochal proposals the DPRK issued to mark the new year for improved inter-Korean relations as a “scheme to incite discord between south Korea and the US”, “a play for time for the completion of nuclear weapons” and “thinly-camouflaged peace offensive”.

As soon as a joint press release was issued at the north-south high-level talks on January 9, Kim Song Thae, floor leader, and other members of the party asserted that “the talks offered the north a ground to be assertive”, “north-south dialogue should presuppose the settlement of the north’s nuclear issue” and “the joint press release is the copy of the north’s New Year Address”.

Party spokesman Jon Hui Gyong claimed that dialogue is “meaningful only when the north starts to abandon its nuclear programme and armed provocation”.

Its assemblymen Kim Ki Son and Kwon Song Dong said that “sports should not be abused as a tool for the north’s political propaganda” with regard to the issue concerning the joint entry of northern and southern players into the venue of the Winter Olympic Games.

In particular, Hong Jun Phyo, party representative, attempted to prevent the authorities from going on with dialogue while coming up with the “colour theory” once again, not content with reviling the DPRK’s magnanimous and broad-minded measures as a “camouflaged peace offensive”.

Ri Tong Sop, Kim Jung Ro and other parliamentarians of the People’s Party also joined the hate campaign against the DPRK. Urging the government to seriously deal with the dialogue with the north, they insisted that “they should not feel relieved by believing in the north at face value” and “the north-south dialogue should be the first step towards the final goal of settlement of the north’s nuclear issue”.

The party’s spokespersons Ri Haeng Ja and Kim Chol Gun spoke ill of the DPRK, saying “the north is seriously mistaken if it regards the recent talks as an opportunity to gain time for upgrading its nuclear and missile capacity” and “excessive expectations are taboo, given that the north remains unchanged as to the nukes and missiles”.

Conservative media and hack writers are desperately inciting a confrontational atmosphere.

The wicked conservative media including Choson Ilbo and Chungang Ilbo described the DPRK’s broad-minded measures and sincere efforts to promote national reconciliation and cooperation as a “step to show the hermit state as a normal one” and “a move for system propaganda”.

They even invented a false story that the Masikryong Ski Resort and Kalma airport the DPRK offered for joint training are old and unsafe.

Indeed, their acts cannot be construed otherwise than the insanity of traitors, the refuse of history, who have no regard for the nation’s great cause.

The south Korean conservatives should not be bent on backbiting, keeping in mind that their nonsensical fussing against the current trend of inter-Korean relations will drive them into a miserable plight.
