The news about DPRK Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un’s official goodwill visit to Vietnam grabbed the world headlines between March 2 and 5.

China’s Xinhua reported that Chairman Kim Jong Un and President Nguyen Phu Trong held talks, agreed to boost bilateral relations and shared views on the issues of promoting visits and exchanges between the two countries at the meeting.

Russia’s TASS broadcast that Chairman Kim Jong Un of the DPRK State Affairs Commission said that it is the consistent stand of the Korean Party and state to carry forward the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries and two Parties generation after generation, and President Nguyen Phu Trong expressed the belief that the Korean people would achieve great successes in building socialism, developing the country and improving the people’s living standards under the leadership of the Workers’ Party of Korea headed by Chairman Kim Jong Un.

The selection of Hanoi as the place for the summit shows the trust between the two countries, it added.

Cuba’s Prensa Latina news agency referred to the fact that the DPRK leader met with Nguyen Phu Trong, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and president of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, as well as Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, chairwoman of the Vietnamese National Assembly, and laid wreaths at the mausoleum of President Ho Chi Minh and the Monument to Heroic Martyrs.

The newspapers, news services, TVs and radios of Mongolia, India, Nepal, Japan, the Democratic Republic of Congo and many other countries, and the websites of the Paektusan Czech-DPRK Friendship Association, the Czech Group for the Study and Materialization of the Juche Idea, the Portuguese branch of the Korean friendship association, the National Committee for the Study of the Juche Idea of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Brazilian centre for the study of the Songun policy gave wide coverage to the news under such headlines as “Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un pays an official goodwill visit to Vietnam”, “Kim Jong Un’s activities in Vietnam”, “The DPPK leader meets with senior officials of Vietnam”, “Senior Vietnamese officials welcome Chairman Kim Jong Un” and “The ties between the DPRK and Vietnam advance to a good future”.

The Swiss Organizing Committee of the International Festival in Praise of the Great Persons of Mt Paektu, the Switzerland-Korea Committee and the Swiss Group for the Study of the Juche Idea issued a joint statement on March 3 to congratulate the Korean leader on his successful goodwill visit to Vietnam.

Referring to the fact that the relationship between the DPRK and Vietnam developed into that of friendship and solidarity thanks to President Kim Il Sung and President Ho Chi Minh, the statement said that the DPRK leader’s Vietnam visit marked an important occasion in carrying on and developing the ties of friendship provided by the preceding leaders of the two countries and that the development of bilateral relations is of great significance in safeguarding peace and security of Asia.
