The present refugee crisis gives rise to serious concern of international community.
Last January a ship carrying refugees was capsized in the Mediterranean Sea on its way to Europe from Africa. Thanks to rapid relief activities, 400-odd refugees could have a narrow escape from drowning, but it indicated once again the urgency of solution of refugee problem.
The problem has long been a big trouble of the international community. In 1951, the UN convened a meeting to discuss the issue and adopted the Protocol on the Status of Refugees. In December 2000, the UN General Assembly set June 20 as World Refugee Day. Despite such positive efforts of the international community, the refugee problem remains unsettled even at present.
According to information released by the International Organization for Migration, about 110 000 refugees migrated from the Middle East or North Africa to Europe last year and over 4 590 refugees were dead or were missing around the world. The destiny of those who arrived at the destination is also tragic. They have to start their life afresh hunting for jobs and shelters in the unwelcoming alien land. Some countries do not admit refugees in consideration of their domestic economic situation.
Many people are forced to live in foreign countries, which is attributable to the ceaseless conflicts and terrorist acts in all parts of the world.
An expert in the Middle East affairs said that confusion was created in the Mideast countries in 2011 and Western countries took advantage of it to foment the “colour revolution” so as to bring about a string of bad results, adding military intervention in Libya and civil war in Syria are important factors responsible for the present refugee crisis.
The refugee crisis in the Mideast region and African countries shows that the interference in internal affairs of other countries by outside forces is the root cause wrecking regional stability and they will never be able to avoid the fate of refugees if they try to settle the matters of their countries and region by relying on outside forces.
