Pyongyang, March 21 (KCNA) -- International exchange and cooperation for conserving and increasing the natural environment and resources are gaining momentum in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
In this regard, Kwak Il Chon, a staff of the C.C., Nature Conservation Union of Korea, told KCNA:
The Nature Conservation Union of Korea (NCUK) has conducted strenuous cooperation activities as a full member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature since its entry into it in September Juche 52 (1963).
The NCUK, grouping 12 natural environment conservation associations like those for protecting animals, forests and marine resources, has been striving to further activate the international cooperation in various fields in recent years.
Under a bilateral joint agreement with the Miranda Naturalists Trust of New Zealand in particular, the Union conducted several rounds of joint survey into migratory birds in the west coastal area of the DPRK to make progress in the work for conserving and propagating endangered migratory birds recognized in the world.
It is planning to make a joint survey of the coastal areas in South Hwanghae Province with the Trust in coming May for the first time.
The Union is now pushing ahead with the work to activate the exchange with the Mongolian Insect Lover's Society..
It is also scheduled to make ecology tourism in cooperation with tourist experts and fans.
Meanwhile, the Union attaches importance to the role of the Korea Environment Fund for sustained development and rational use of nature.
To this end, it is increasing its membership and further promoting the constructive and friendly cooperation and exchange with international natural environment conservation bodies and organizations, financial groups and individuals. -0-
