Pyongyang, April 19 (KCNA) -- April 19, Juche 37 (1948), is recorded in the modern history of Korea as a very significant day.
On the day, the historic Joint Conference of Representatives of Political Parties and Social Organizations in North and South Korea was convened in Pyongyang.
After the liberation of Korea from Japan's colonial rule on August 15, 1945, the Korean peninsula was faced with a crisis of national division due to the machinations of outsiders and their puppets.
For this reason, President Kim Il Sung made an epochal proposal of convening the Joint Conference of Representatives of Political Parties and Social Organizations in North and South for building a unified democratic and independent state.
And he sent officials to representatives of political parties and social organizations and personages in south Korea to inform them of the Workers' Party of Korea's policies on the united front and north-south negotiations.
He clarified that the political parties, social organizations and personages who support Korea's reunification should unite, irrespective of political view and religious belief, and he would join hands with anyone who turn to the road of patriotism though he or she committed crimes before the nation in the past.
As a result, the joint conference was convened as a pan-national meeting involving 56 political parties and social organizations in the north and the south.
At the meeting, the President made a historic report "The Political Situation in North Korea" which indicates the way for Korea's independent and peaceful reunification.
All the participants gave full support to the report, saying that it was "grandiose alarm on the crisis that Korea undergoes", "clear illumination to brighten the road for the nation" and "new guideline".
In this connection, even an American writer said that all the prominent figures in south Korea except Syngman Rhee took part in the north-south joint conference. -0-
