South Koreans from all backgrounds are rising up against the Liberal Korea Party as the ultra-right conservative group has persisted in outdated politics and engrossed in the monopolization of government while running counter to public sentiment.
Civil society organizations including the April 16 Solidarity staged a massive candlelight rally on May 4 to denounce the LKP as a criminal organization and corrupt party that stands in the way of elimination of evil legacies and social reform and to call on the public to stage another candlelit campaign for punishing it as they had impeached Park Geun Hye.
The Korea Youth Solidarity, the Youth Party and other progressive youth organizations formed a preparatory committee for the “civilian constitutional court for the dissolution of the LKP”.
Meanwhile, civil society organizations and citizens of Kwangju blocked the way of LKP members including representative Hwang Kyo An, who were to hold an anti-government rally there, and doused them with water, shouting “Get away at once” and “Dissolve the Liberal Korea Party”.
Lots of anti-LKP messages are being posted on the internet including “Let us hold up candles again and completely disband the Liberal Korea Party” and “Let us exterminate the disgusting pro-Japanese traitors fooling the people in next year’s general election”.
Local media and pundits comment that if such an atmosphere continues, the LKP will be unable to avoid a crushing defeat in the coming general election.
Such actions can be seen as an eruption of public anger and hatred at the LKP.
Even after the impeachment of the Park Geun Hye dictatorship, it has been hell-bent on reversing the improving Korean peninsula situation by going against the trend of the times and public sentiment, and now it is blatantly clamouring for the acquittal of Park and nullity of her impeachment.
It is a source of trouble for the nation that such a conservative group which was on the verge of collapse punished by history rears its ugly head again.
