June 12 2018 has been recorded in history as the day when an epochal event took place in the effort to ensure peace on the Korean peninsula and in the rest of the world.

That day, Kim Jong Un, Chairman of the Workers’ Party of Korea, Chairman of the DPRK State Affairs Commission and Supreme Commander of the armed forces of the DPRK, met with US President Donald J. Trump on Sentosa Island, Singapore, to hold the first-ever DPRK-US summit meeting and talks in history.

The two leaders shared candid views on the practical issues of weighty significance in putting an end to the decades-long hostile relations between the DPRK and the US and making peace and stability settle on the Korean peninsula and signed a historic joint statement of the Singapore summit. They also committed to implement the stipulations in the joint statement fully and expeditiously.

The DPRK-US summit meeting and talks, which were held under the world’s spotlight, were a momentous occasion that brought the hope of settlement of peace to the Korean peninsula where fire had been exchanged; and the June 12 DPRK-US Joint Statement was a historic declaration announcing to the world that the two countries which had been hostile to each other from one century into the next would write a new history of relationship, and therefore it won full support and approval of the international community aspiring to peace.

The world media gave wide coverage of the Singapore summit and talks and the adoption of the joint statement, describing them as “creation of a new history,” “a historic event,” “talks to be supplemented in history books and world history books”, “one-on-one talks that brought the world to a halt for 35 minutes”, “Kim Jong Un and Trump raise the curtain of meeting”, “an epoch-making handshake” and “a historic signature heralding a new start.”

Governments, political parties and organizations of many countries around the world issued statements, which included such contents as “a resolution that promoted peace of the Korean peninsula and opened up a new road for more positive development of situation in the region,” “we hope that they would lead to ensuring global peace and stability”, “measures taken by the DPRK government recently are an expression of its will to ensure peace of the Korean peninsula” and “June 12 2018 will be recorded in the world history.” They stressed that the joint statement should be implemented as quickly as possible so as to ensure peace and stability on the Korean peninsula.

The implementation of the DPRK-US Joint Statement is the best way to drastically develop the bilateral ties in line with the aspirations and desires of the two peoples and the demand of the present era for achieving peace and stability of the Korean peninsula.
