At the beginning of last April the citizens of Pyongyang showed deep affection towards the participants in the 5th Meeting of the Commanders and Political Instructors of the Companies of the Korean People’s Army. The participants reunited with their families and relatives in the streets, residential quarters and homes of the city. The officials of the Party and government bodies, ministries, national organs, factories and enterprises visited them at their lodging and presented them with goods as a token of their sincerity. They were joined in by working people.
The citizens enthusiastically sent off the participants when they returned to their companies. The latter keenly realized that the country and the people believed them firmly and expected very much from them.
The above was the epitome of the great unity between the KPA and the people in socialist Korea.
Throughout the whole period of our revolution the servicemen and the people shared life and death with each other and performed immortal heroic feats with one mind and one purpose. Before Korean liberation from Japanese colonial rule numerous patriots supported the anti-Japanese guerillas morally and materially falling in the snowstorm. They knew full well that they might be killed by the enemy in the course of their support but did not hesitate at all to back up the guerrillas for the liberation of Korea. During the Fatherland Liberation War the people pounded rice in mortars to provide it to our soldiers and officers fighting with the enemy on the front, carried ammunition boxes to them and shared bad times and good with them in the same trenches reposing firm faith in victory in the Fatherland Liberation War. Consequently, our country could win it with honor.
Support for the armed forces, which originated in the flames of the anti-Japanese war, was constantly carried forward year after year even in the days of the grim class struggle and the fierce confrontation with imperialists.It is still the greatest patriotic work of the people.
