The 17th Pyongyang International Film Festival opened at the Pyongyang International Cinema House on September 20.
Present at its opening ceremony were Vice-Premier Jon Kwang Ho, Cha Hui Rim, chairman of the Pyongyang Municipal People’s Committee, officials concerned, creators and artistes of film industry, citizens, honorary guests, delegations and delegates from China, Russia, Sweden, Australia and Canada, and international jury members of the DPRK, China, Russia, Cuba and Sweden.
Foreign diplomatic envoys and representatives of the missions of international bodies, military attachés and members of foreign embassies, foreign guests and overseas compatriots staying in Pyongyang were invited to the festival.
There was a briefing on the films presented to the festival.
Jong Yong Nam, director-general of the National Administration of Motion Picture Industry and chairman of the festival organizing committee, delivered an opening address.
The chairman of the international jury made a congratulatory speech.
Prizes of the film festival were introduced and a performance was given by film music artists.
After the ceremony the participants watched "T-34", a feature film of the Russian Federation.
