The following is a story related to the founding of the Workers’ Party of Korea on October 10, Juche 34 (1945).
President Kim Il Sung put forward a unique policy of founding a party in the initial days of the Korean revolution and laid solid organizational and ideological foundations and created a brilliant tradition for party building in the flames of the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle. On this basis, he buckled down to the work of founding a party without delay right after Korea’s liberation in August 1945.
He returned in triumph to Pyongyang quietly, and met with revolutionaries in the homeland to inform them of the Juche-oriented policy on party founding and led them to this end.
He worked day and night to work out the political line of the party to be founded, met with many visitors to indicate the road ahead of them and gave guidance to the work of political workers active in all provinces.
After winding up the preparations for founding the party successfully in a short span of time, he convened a preparatory meeting on October 5 to set up the Central Organizing Committee of the Communist Party of North Korea as the central leadership body of the party.
On October 9, the day before founding the party, he visited the then Kangson Steel Plant to kindle the flames of rehabilitation. That evening, he wrote a report to be delivered at the inaugural congress of the party, without taking a rest to relieve his day-long fatigue.
An official earnestly asked Kim Il Sung, oblivious of his meals while preparing a report until at dawn the following day, to take a rest for a moment. Kim Il Sung declined his request and told him that he has got accustomed to it and that daybreak was the most precious time for him.
The sun was rising when he gave his finishing touches to the report for the inaugural congress of the party. Looking out over the eastern sky by his office window, he said in excitement to officials that the time has come up when a new page would be recorded in the history of the revolutionary movement in Korea which had experienced twists and turns and trying ordeals.
The Inaugural Congress of the CPNK Central Organizing Committee was convened on October 10, 1945. The day was etched in the history of the Workers’ Party of Korea in golden letters.
