November 10 this year marks the 74th founding anniversary of the World Federation of Democratic Youth.

It is a powerful international organization which protects political, social and economic rights and vital interests of the youth, opposes imperialism and struggles for peace, democracy, national independence and social progress. It has led the world youth movement to the struggle for building a new prosperous and peaceful world.

The Democratic Youth League of Korea, the predecessor of the Kimilsungist-Kimjongilist Youth League, was founded on January 17, Juche 35 (1946). It joined the WFDY on June 24, 1946 and has worked as its vice chair-organization since its seventh congress held in Bulgaria in June 1966.

As the only mass political organization of the Korean young people who are led by the Workers’ Party of Korea, the Kimilsungist-Kimjongilist Youth League takes it as its mission to train youth and students to be genuine revolutionaries and ensure that they satisfactorily play their role as the vanguard and shock brigade in socialist construction.

The WPK and the DPRK have paid close attention to solving the youth problem in every period and at every stage of the developing revolution and set the prioritizing of young people as the most important state affair and a strategic line of the revolution. Their scrupulous care and concern for the youth league have served as the driving force behind its satisfactory performance of its role.

Today, the Korean young men and women are fully demonstrating the resourcefulness and bravery of the heroic youth in national defence and socialist construction.

Progressive youth organizations and personages around the world praise the DPRK as they say that it is the only country which has fully solved the youth problem and that its experience constitutes an example to be followed by all other youth organizations.

The Kimilsungist-Kimjongilist Youth League conducts dynamic solidarity activities with the world’s progressive youth and students for peace, solidarity and social justice, as it takes an active part in the congress, regular meeting, festival and other events hosted by the federation.

Especially, it successfully sponsored the 13th World Festival of Youth and Students in Pyongyang in July 1989 under the slogan of “For Anti-imperialist Solidarity, Peace and Friendship!” and thereby greatly contributed to strengthening friendship, unity and solidarity among the youth and students of five continents who turned out in the struggle for building a new peaceful world free from domination, subordination, aggression and war.

The WFDY renders proactive support and encouragement to the struggle of the Korean youth for socialist construction and national reunification. And as it highly appreciates the position and role the Korean youth league assumes in the federation and the movement of world progressive youth, the federation has put its hopes on the activities of the Korean youth league for its development.

The Kimilsungist-Kimjongilist Youth League will cement anti-imperialist solidarity, friendship and unity with the world’s progressive young peoples and set a good example and serve as the vanguard in the struggle of young peoples to achieve independence and justice.
