A research group of Kim Chaek University of Technology recently developed a new connector to connect or separate ultra-large IC chips of all forms with high efficiency by using infrared application technology.
In the past electric solder, hot-air connector, laser connector and various other devices were used to connect IC chips. But with the rapid development of science and technology special BGA IC chips were mass produced, creating an obstacle to their connection.
Choe Ji Myong, chief of the applied electronics lab of the university, and other scientists conducted scientific research into using the infrared application technology to suit the specific conditions of the country. In the course of it, they solved many problems arising in developing the new connector, including the analyses of the effect of temperature on the stability of chips and of the transmission of infrared light and absorption spectrum according to media and selection of rational radiation wavelength.
Through the extensive research the group confirmed infrared wavelength bands that can ensure high efficiency without damaging with heat and successfully developed the connector with a vertical double heating structure, which is composed of the main control, contact temperature control, output and high precision parts.
“The new connector is a high-tech product which can properly connect special BGA IC chips as well as ordinary ones and ensures 100 percent efficiency and safety with far less cost than imported devices,” said Choe.
The product won the first prize at the 34th National Festival of Science and Technology this year as it is very helpful in pushing the development of the country’s electronics.
