This year, light-industry factories and enterprises and various other units made positive efforts to modernize equipment. Of particular note is that they have closely combined the modernization of equipment with the improvement of quality of products.

The Pyongyang Leather Shoes Factory helped the Wonsan Leather Shoes Factory with all sincerity in its efforts to produce natural leather shoes. As the latter has so far produced shoes with synthetic leather, it had no experience of making shoes with natural leather. Technicians of the Pyongyang Leather Shoes Factory went to Wonsan and gave technical guidance to designing and the rest of production processes in a comprehensive way, helping the Wonsan Leather Shoes Factory’s Maebongsan-brand leather shoes gain public favour at the autumn national footwear exhibition-2019.

An undertaking to increase the rate of domestic production of raw and other materials was also pushed briskly.

The foodstuff factory in Changsong County, North Phyongan Province, produced a variety of foods by collecting a great deal of wild fruits and edible greens, while the winery in Chosan County, Jagang Province, turned out wine and other kinds of drinks with grapes, wild grapes, fruit of Actinidia arguta, wild pear and some other wild fruits gathered from mountains as raw materials. Sinpho City of South Hamgyong Province expanded the area of five-hectare mussel farm, which was built last year, twice this year and newly set up a process of producing soy sauce with mussel.
