Organization of election committees and constituencies
In the DPRK, a constituency for election of deputies to the people's assemblies at all levels is organized according to the number of deputies in consideration of the number of administrative districts and population, and the number of constituency is decided equally with that of deputies to a relevant people’s assembly.
The constituencies for election of deputies to the Supreme People’s Assembly are organized by the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly, and those for election of deputies to local people’s assemblies by relevant people’s committees.
For the convenience of voters, sub-constituencies are organized by the people’s committees in relevant cities (districts) and counties in consideration of administrative districts, the number of voters, traffic conditions, etc.
In case elections of deputies to the provincial (municipal people’s) assembly and city (district) and county people’s assemblies are conducted at the same time, the constituencies are organized on the principle of joining constituencies and sub-constituencies.
Constituencies and sub-constituencies for elections of deputies to the Supreme People’s Assembly are organized 40 days prior to the election day, and those for elections of deputies to the provincial (municipal), city (district) and county people’s assemblies before 30 days.
In the DPRK, election committees are organized to ensure the successful election of deputies to the people’s assemblies at all levels.
The election committees at all levels comprise the people from all walks of life recommended at political parties and social organizations. An election committee needs more than two thirds of its members to meet, and its decision is adopted with the approval from over half the total number of participants.
The meetings of the central, provincial (municipal), city (district) and county election committees are held within ten days after the declaration of the election day, and those of constituencies and sub-constituencies within five days after setting those constituencies and sub-constituencies. All the election committees are dissolved three days after the announcement of election results.
Remuneration for the work done by members of those committees during the election is paid by their institutions, enterprises and organizations.
