Last year, the Korean people have vigorously stepped up the socialist construction, frustrating the ever-mounting sanctions and pressure of the hostile forces against their country.

The 4th Plenary Meeting of the 7th Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea was held in April Juche 108 (2019). It made a scientific analysis of the peculiarities of the present ever-worsening situation and put forward a revolutionary line of advancing the socialist construction more vigorously on the basis of the independent national economy that suits the conditions and actual circumstances of the country and relies on local efforts, technology and resources.

In hearty response to the decision of the Plenary Meeting, the Korean people launched the indomitable offensive under the banner of self-reliance and self-sufficiency, and thus further strengthened their own internal might with self-sufficiency and self-reliance as the motive power and greatly demonstrated the indefatigable valour and tremendous potentiality of their country.

They achieved great successes ceaselessly in bolstering up the strength of the state and in increasing its defence capabilities for guaranteeing the dignity and security of the country and the people reliably by developing the state-of-the-art weapons system possessed only by advanced countries in defence science and technology.

Valuable successes were achieved in economic construction. The Korean people reaped an unprecedented bumper harvest that exceeded the peak-year level even in the face of heinous sanctions and pressure imposed by the hostile forces and unfavourable weather conditions. Such large-scale construction as the second-stage project for sprucing up the city of Samjiyon, Yangdok Hot Spring Resort, Wonsan Kalma coast resort and Tanchon Power Station was brought to completion or pushed ahead, and almost all the sectors of the national economy showed a trend of remarkable growth. Kangwon, North Phyongan and other provinces competitively achieved marked results in developing agriculture, stockbreeding, education, public health and local industry.

The work of training talents and developing science and technology was promoted purposefully and the public health sector pushed ahead with the work of modernizing pharmaceutical and medical appliance factories and enhancing the quality of medical services.

Such achievements clearly prove that they can surely be well off with their own efforts and pave the avenue to development and prosperity of their own way, no matter what persistent efforts the hostile forces may make.

Upholding the slogan “Let us smash straight through all the barriers in the way of our advance!” put forward by the 5th Plenary Meeting of the 7th WPK Central Committee, the Korean people are launching another dynamic offensive to open a road of victorious advance in socialist construction.
