The Pyongyang Railway Bureau fulfilled its transport plan for early January at 100.5 percent as compared to the corresponding period of last year and transported over 494 000 tons of more freight than scheduled.
According to Yun Myong Chol, a section chief of the bureau, it is in charge of railway transport in the western part of the country where there are large industrial establishments such as the Pukchang Thermal Power Complex, Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex and Sangwon Cement Complex and main granaries including the Jaeryong and Yonbaek plains and takes up a large share in the total freight transportation of the country.
The bureau scrupulously organizes the transport of materials for thermal power stations to ensure uninterrupted power production, and pays primary attention to the transport of freight headed for leading metallurgical factories and major construction sites such as Samjiyon City and the Wonsan Kalma coast resort.
It established a strict unified traffic control system, required dispatchers to organize and control transport in close contact with relevant units and made the most of the existing capacity and potentials, thus transporting tens of thousands of tons of more freight than planned every day.
Meanwhile, it is training its own technical staff and trying to make the most of their abilities.
“We have established a plant for making linoleum which we had to import from other countries in the past,” said staffer Chae Song Hui. “We designed moulds for frames of points in different sizes and switched from wooden ties for points to concrete ones which do not require screw bolts.”
