On March 8, Juche 102 (2013), Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un, intended to rebuild Chongchun Street, which was associated with the leadership exploits of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il, as required by the new century, visited it to familiarize himself with the conditions of gymnasiums.
After giving a task of finishing the exterior decorations of the Table-Tennis Gymnasium in keeping with the aesthetic sense of the times, he entered the gym, expressing his dissatisfaction that the interior was much dark for the low illumination intensity of the lamps.
Hearing in detail from a relevant official about its illumination, he noted thorough measures should be taken to improve the effect of the over-all lighting system of the gyms.
In fact, luminous condition in the table-tennis gym was vital to the training for the players.
Seeing the curtains hanging on the windows, Kim Jong Un said: While rebuilding this gym the internal windows should be filled up and the lamps replaced by better ones.
And then there would be no problem in training.
It was an internationally-recognized common knowledge to install lighting system in a gym without any windows.
The Supreme Leader specified detailed measures to be taken in keeping with the international standard in its reconstruction.
That day he looked round other gyms and told the officials to renovate all the gyms in line with the world trends and standards as well as the aesthetic sense of the times, so as to turn Chongchun Street into a centre that makes a tangible contribution to the country’s sports development.
