The Fifth Plenary Meeting of the 7th Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea held in December last year put forward a revolutionary line for smashing straight through the unprecedentedly severe trials, defending to the last the sovereignty and supreme interests of the country and opening the road to victory of the revolutionary cause of Juche under the unfurled banner of achieving prosperity by dint of self-reliance.

The WPK’s idea of launching the offensive for a frontal breakthrough is a revolutionary fighting strategy and a mode of advance to take the initiative and turn the difficult situation into a favourable one by mounting an active offensive.

Over the past period, the Korean people have waged unyielding struggle under the leadership of the WPK to make a fundamental change in the destiny and position of their country, braving indescribable difficulties and ordeals. Today, the DPRK is ushering in a heyday of world-startling development and prosperity in all sectors of the economy and culture under the guarantee of its powerful physical strength.

But, its hostile forces are still hell-bent on imposing sanctions and pressure on it. Last year alone, they threatened it militarily by conducting dozens of big and small joint military drills and shipping latest war equipment into south Korea and further intensified blockade and pressure by completely checking all the channels related to developing its economy and improving its people’s standard of living.

The prevailing situation shows that it should not make a detour around or escape from the present difficulties lying in the way of advance of socialist construction but smash straight through them on the strength of self-reliance.

The WPK’s offensive for a frontal breakthrough is a revolutionary and proactive offensive to root out the challenges and barriers to the dynamic advance of the country.

The hostile forces are now openly revealing their provocative political, military and economic manoeuvres to completely stifle and crush the Republic, while seeking their own political and diplomatic interests under the signboard of dialogue and negotiations.

History proves that there would be neither détente nor normal development of the economy unless the hostile forces’ last-ditch weapon of sanctions is reduced to a dead wood and they are brought to their knees.

It is the principled stand of the DPRK that the security and dignity of its state and the safety of its future can never be bartered for anything else. Under the present situation that warns a protracted confrontation with the enemy, the road of defending itself by building up its strength sufficiently enough to keep the hostile forces at bay so that they would not dare to threaten its sovereignty and security it is the only path to victory.

The more it strengthens its own force and internal motive force in every way in all aspects of the offensive for a frontal breakthrough and creates valuable wealth on the strength of self-reliance and self-sufficiency, the tighter corner the enemies will find themselves in and the earlier the day of victory of socialism will come.

The current offensive for a frontal breakthrough is a struggle to foil the enemies’ sanctions and blockade and realize the people’s dreams and ideals as early as possible by dint of self-reliance.

In recent years, the Korean people have been faced with the unprecedentedly lethal pressure that others would not withstand even a single day but yield to it, but they have greatly demonstrated the tremendous power and potential for development of their country while proudly advancing and leaping true to the appeal of the WPK to open up a great period of upsurge in socialist construction holding higher the unfurled banner of self-reliance. The dignified, independent measures taken by the country have resulted in remarkably enhancing its image and influence. Such miraculous achievements made in socialist construction proved that no difficulties could ever stop or delay the rush of the Korean people advancing undauntedly as a solid integral whole.

The upcoming situation in the way of advance may not always be optimistic, but favourable conditions and final victory depend on the people who make headway in any adversity. It is the will of the Korean people to make a bold charge without vacillation and hesitation to achieve without fail the ideals and goals of building a powerful country under such circumstances that they have the invincible might of single-hearted unity and matchless military muscles and the obstacles to their advance are obvious.

The WPK’s idea of launching the offensive for a frontal breakthrough reflects the unanimous demand and aspiration of all the Korean people.

The offensive of braving difficulties is the traditional fighting method they have adhered to in the protracted period of making the revolution under the leadership of the WPK.

As long as they are guided by the WPK’s line that crystallizes their aspiration and desire and they are single-heartedly united behind it, the DPRK will defend its dignity and bring about great changes in all sectors of politics, the economy, military and culture by achieving prosperity by dint of self-reliance. The world will witness its great might in the near future.
