Kangwon Province is making achievements in the movement to bring new lands under the plow.
Poptong County, which has a limited area of arable land, brought under cultivation over 40 hectares of new lands in a matter of one month by building up one thousand and hundreds of square metres of stone fences around reservoirs and the lower reaches of the Rimjin River and carpeting them with new soil.
Wonsan City and Anbyon County carried out river improvement projects to bring under the plow over 90 and 110 hectares of lands respectively, and Kumgang County restored to their original state a lot of lands washed away in Hyon-ri and Sungab-ri.
Phangyo, Thongchon, Phyonggang, Ichon and Kosong counties turned the areas around reservoirs and rivers, wetlands and lands washed away by natural disasters into farmlands, and Sepho County reclaimed the Taegok-ri area overgrown with shrubs just in a few days.
Munchon City transformed non-cultivating lands into arable lands and Chonnae County created tens of hectares of new land by reclaiming the areas at the foot of a mountain.
As a result, thousands of hectares of new land have been brought under the plow in the province.
