The Korean Central News Agency released a report on the successful completion of a large -scale irrigation system in South Hwanghae Province on May 22. It said:

The successful completion of the second-stage waterway project made it possible to fully supply irrigation water to the vast western coastal granary, providing a firm foundation for decisively increasing grain production.

The Korean-style peculiar irrigation network set up in the western area of the country also makes it possible to save tens of millions kWh of electric power for pumping facilities every year and get a number of pumping equipment out of use, protect land from flood damage in the areas along the lower Jaeryong and Ryesong rivers and spruce up the appearance of the land of socialist country.

The waterway is a monumental edifice in the era of the Workers' Party which has been brought to completion thanks to the instructions of Chairman Kim Jong Il and the far-reaching nature-remaking plan of Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un and his energetic guidance.

In April Juche 100 (2011), Kim Jong Il issued an order of the Chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission to commence the waterway project in two stages.

Kim Jong Un saw through the significance and importance of the project in decisively boosting grain production in South Hwanghae Province which takes the lion's share of domestic agricultural production, and aroused the entire Party, the whole country and all the people to the grand nature-harnessing project.

The waterway project kicked off in January 2012 when all the people started their advance for the new century of the Juche era, kindling the fierce flames of devotedly implementing the instructions of the leader and upholding the policies of the Party.

The project was a gigantic construction campaign of building a largest-ever gravitational irrigation network for which over 11 800 000 cubic metres of bedrock and earth should be excavated, dozens of waterway tunnels cut and over 190-km-long waterway with over 770 structures of different kinds and huge siphons built.

The fierce hot wind of leap forward was raised from the beginning of the first-stage project.

Through the five-year-long arduous struggle for harnessing nature by displaying the spirit of self-reliance and self-development, the builders successfully completed the first-stage project in South Hwanghae Province in the meaningful year when the Seventh Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea was held.

The second-stage project began from January 2017. The builders built a reservoir dam on Lake Pongchon, an over 80-km-long waterway, tunnels and other hundreds of structures like siphons and culverts in over three years.

Thanks to the efforts of shock brigade members, socialist fairylands for the people evacuated from submerged areas came into being and good species of trees and flower trees were planted in mountains and fields around the waterway to add beauty.

The completion of the waterway project in South Hwanghae Province proved once again the truth that nothing is impossible in the world when there are the leadership of the great Party and the inexhaustible might of people opening a broad avenue for leap forward under the uplifted banner of self-reliance, the report stressed.
