President Kim Il Sung visited a cooperative farm early in the morning in June 1978.
Walking slowly along the end of its rice paddy he gauged the depth of its water and admonished an official of the farm to fill its paddies with no more water than their rice plants needed. This was a recipe for a change to be effected by his farm in its rice cultivation.
Deeply moved by this the official seriously reflected that he had so far failed to understand the essence of the Juche-based farming method and farmed the land by a rule of thumb. Believing that water was fundamental to rice paddy farming he arranged for his rice paddies to be fully irrigated for no good reason. Worse still, he did so even when rice plants eared up and regarded it as the usual sort of thing.
He blushed to reproach himself for this.
Looking at him Kim Il Sung said that it was best for rice plants to saturate their fields with water in the future and taught him in plain words that the saturation of paddy fields with water meant irrigating them so that they could always be as wet and soft as jelly-like bean curds. Furthermore, he explained the latter in detail how to irrigate his rice paddies after the application of weed killers and before and after the application of fertilizers.
This was a special lecture given by Kim Il Sung to the official on scientific farming methods to convince him that they alone enabled him to reap bumper crops in the autumn.
This was a typical example by no means. Kim Il Sung inspected the fields of one farm after another across the country on too many occasions and clearly taught their officials how to develop their agriculture for the nation. Consequently, this land has become a happy paradise of the people.
Firmly determined to reap abundant harvests without fail as Kim Il Sung wished our socialist agricultural workers zealously follow the plow along scientific lines and unselfishly work by the sweat of their brows for the country.
