Early in March several years ago lorries laden with saplings drove through a mountainous region. They were led by a car which bore Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un.
He looked out the window, given to speculation. Nobody knew what was in his heart and why he was motoring along despite having to handle the important affairs of the nation.
After a good while he reached a unit of the Korean People’s Army. He told officials that today marked the historic day when President Kim Il Sung, Chairman Kim Jong Il and Comrade Kim Jong Suk ascended the Moran Hill right after fatherland liberation from Japanese colonial rule and lighted the first torch of tree planting for the eternal progress and prosperity of the country as well as our Tree-planting Day. He said that he would plant a tree in commemoration of the Tree-planting Day.
Apparently he was recollecting the devotion of Kim Il Sung to the afforestation of the country with deep emotion.
Soon afterward he looked about to ascertain where trees would be planted. He found that pits had already been dug to that end.
He said that this sort of thing was done out of formalism and taught the officials that one must literally dig a pit in the ground and plant a tree there oneself.
That day he emphasized that afforestation stood for part of the Kim Jong Il's patriotism on wooding and landscaping the whole country.
It was not until then that the officials knew that he came here not only to plant trees but also to ensure that patriotism was inculcated and fostered in them and the rest of all the people as well during their afforestation.
Kim Jong Un lost no time in choosing the right place for planting a tree and energetically digging a pit there with a spade and planting a tree there with much care. He also taught the officials in detail how to plant their trees. He looked round at them and dynamically appealed to them to actively learn from Kim Jong Il's patriotism and realize it thoroughly with the object of fully inspiring it among the people and making the country rich and strong.
The officials keenly realized that true patriotism consisted in treasuring up every blade of grass and every tree in the country and taking whole-hearted care of them.
