Pyongyang, May 30 (KCNA) -- May 31 is World No Tobacco Day and the theme for the day of this year is "Protecting youth from industry manipulation and preventing them from tobacco and nicotine use".
On this occasion, a nonsmoking campaign is getting brisk in the DPRK.
The Non-smoking Research Center in Sosong District, Pyongyang City, conducts consultation and service on non-smoking, research into harmful impact of smoking on human body and its aftereffects, development of tobacco substitutes and health food, etc.
In recent years the center has developed 10-odd kinds of tobacco substitutes and health foods with natural herbs growing in famous mountains of the country.
Also, the center and its branch offices in provinces have explained the necessity of non-smoking, the law on tobacco control, harmful effects of smoking on human body and effective methods for abstaining from smoking to the inhabitants while distributing the newly developed medicines for non-smoking.
In this regard, Ri Hui Gyong, head of the center, told KCNA:
The number of visitors to the center is increasing and a tobacco cessation nutrition pill is popular among them. This health food, developed more than ten years ago, is still winning popularity for its nonsmoking effect and removal of disorders caused by smoking. -0-
