Agricultural scientists were called by President Kim Il Sung to his residence in May 1964.
On entering its garden they were surprised at it and stood still.
They believed that the garden would be pranked with ornamental trees or flowers but something like an experimental farm spread out before their eyes. This was far beyond imagination.
Information posts were fixed at the edges of the garden’s experimental plots in perfect order. Laid out tidily and cultivated with much care they were carpeted with scores of kinds of fresh and green cereal and fodder crops and vegetables. They bore clear testimony to the whole-hearted painstaking efforts made by Kim Il Sung to develop the agriculture of the country all the time.
Kim Il Sung stepped toward his experimental wheat and barley plots. He said that it was necessary to double-crop wheat and barley to solve the food grain problem in our country whose area of arable land was limited and that species of crops were of primary importance to that end. He taught the scientists in detail how to grow many sorts of wheat and barley and what to research into in the future.
They were deeply moved by him to tears.
Truth to tell, the garden had a small pond. But it was converted into an experimental plot, too.
One spring day he procured a new strain of young crop. He looked for a place to plant it in his garden. But it could be found nowhere because the garden had already been sown with crops.
Pointing to a pond in the garden Kim Il Sung suggested to officials that it should be filled up with earth to plant the crop there. They earnestly asked him to leave it intact.
He said that there was no need for him to stroll here all alone because going among the people was for him to take a rest and finally ensured that the pond was filled up. He planted the crop there and observed the course of its growth.
Therefore, all the people of the country pine for him as ardently as ever despite the passage of time. They work hard by the sweat of their brows to reap rich harvests without fail this year on the occasion of the 75th birthday of the Workers’ Party of Korea.
