Pyongyang, June 30 (KCNA) -- A work is going on in the DPRK to register newly-bred high-yielding species of crops as national agrotypes and widely introduce them.
According to Ri Yun Sik, head of a department of the Academy of Agricultural Science, more than 60 species in tens of crops like rice, maize, red pepper, tomato, peach and grape were recently listed as national agrotypes.
The new species have strong resistance to such unfavorable climate conditions as high temperature, drought, prolonged rain and cold weather and to diseases and harmful insects. And they produce high yield per hectare.
What catch the eyes of agricultural workers are new species of rice which can produce high and stable yield with organic fertilizer and new potato species which can produce 40-odd tons per hectare in alpine regions of more than 800 meters above sea level.
New species of watermelon, too, is well received at greenhouses as it produces high yield and has strong resistance to low temperature and moisture.
Besides, 19 new fruit species are to be introduced into fruit farms.
