One summer day in 1972 that marked his 60th birthday, the President visited a refrigerating plant which was built in a port on the east coast after receiving the report on it. And he learned in detail about its refrigerating capacity and equipment, staying at a quick-freezing chamber for a long time in summer attire.
When officials worried about his health, he told them that in order to provide the people with sufficient food, they should go everywhere and that they would be unable to do anything if they consulted their own interests.
He continued his journey to the countryside throughout his life, always concerning himself with the development of agriculture. From early morning to the noon of an August day in 1993 alone, he visited five farms in South Hwanghae Province in succession to give precious instructions on farming.
Upon hearing a report from an official on the completion of the supply of new clothes to all kindergarten children and students across the country at a consultative meeting of senior officials in the economic sector held in the last period of his great life, he was so pleased that he repeatedly expressed thanks to the official.
