Primary school undergoes facelift

In June 1948, President Kim Il Sung dropped in at a small school built near the road on his way to the state model farm in the then Annong Sub-county, Kyongwon County, North Hamgyong Province.

It was Sunday. So there were neither teachers nor students and the door was locked.

Turning his steps slowly without any word, the President looked into the interior through the window and said that even during the anti-Japanese war we put forward the education and edification of members of the Children’s Corps as an important revolutionary task and built the Children’s Corps schools properly. In order to satisfy the Korean people’s century-old desire for learning in the present days after the country’s liberation, he noted, we made sure that priority was given to education over other works and schools at all levels were built in all parts of the country, especially primary schools in all sub-counties and many ris. Therefore, the popular and democratic educational system was established for the first time in national history, he said, referring to the need to build schools well and furnish them with enough school fixtures through a mass movement without waiting for materials and funds to be supplied by the state.

Afterwards, Nongpho Primary School and other schools in the county underwent a total facelift.
