These days, the regions around the Korean peninsula are suffering from severe floods.
July and August are the rainy season in the DPRK and nearly 60% of annual precipitation is measured in the two months.
Most recently, it rained cats and dogs in some areas of Kangwon Province, in particular.
The DPRK is channelling great efforts into preventing flood damage in the rainy season.
Based on a detailed survey of those projects which may be afflicted by flooding, all sectors and units of the national economy, including the electric power and coal-mining industries, agriculture, land administration and rail transport sectors are now making full preparations for coping with untoward circumstances.
Pyongyang Municipality is making preparations for enlisting manpower, vehicles and other means and relief materials in case of emergency while maintaining alarm and communications systems to cope with the rainy season. It also makes sure that the systems related to the prevention of flood damage in the rainy season are on standby alert.
South Hwanghae Province reinforced over 22 400-metre-long tide embankments and cleared away hundreds-of-kilometre-long drainage and other waterways.
Sariwon City in North Hwanghae Province and Nampho City put in good state of maintenance pumping equipment and drainage canals in order to thoroughly protect crop land from flooding.
Rural communities in the east coastal areas are taking scrupulous measures to prevent damages from flooding.
Chongjin City and Hwadae County in North Hamgyong Province carried out the clearing of waterways and improvement of scores-of-kilometre-long rivers and streams, and made pumping equipment and facilities ready for full operation under any circumstances.
The State Hydro-Meteorological Administration is providing meteorological information to prevent flooding through the mass media and communications means in a diversified way.
