Ko Yong Suk, the first hero in the textile industry of the DPRK, carried out the production plan at over 500% every day under the difficult conditions during the Fatherland Liberation War between June 1950 and July 1953 to win the title of Labour Hero in February 1953.
During the period of the fulfilment of the three-year plan for the postwar rehabilitation and development of the national economy, weavers and spinners like Kim Pong Rye of the then Pyongyang Textile Mill and Sin Pok Sun of the Kusong Textile Mill conducted the multi-spindle and multi-machine tending campaigns and became labour heroines.
In the 1960s many labour innovators including weavers Ri Hwa Sun, Sung Chang Suk and Pak Kum Ok of the Pyongyang Textile Mill, weaver Ko Kum Sun of the Kusong Textile Mill and spinner Yun Kyong Hui of the Sinuiju Textile Mill won the title of Labour Hero by overfulfilling the three-year plan, five-year plan and the first seven-year plan ahead of schedule successively.
Dozens of labour heroines were also produced in the 1970s, including eight each from the Pyongyang Textile Mill and the Sinuiju Textile Mill.
Weaver Mun Kang Sun of the Pyongyang Kim Jong Suk Textile Mill was the first winner of the title of Labour Hero in the industry in the new century.
In the past 10-odd years she overfulfilled the yearly production plan every year.
