DPRK delegate refers to boosting NAM and promoting solidarity

“Eradicating the demonic virus on the earth and saving humankind is the most pressing issue which brooks no further delay, and effectively dealing with the global pandemic is an urgent task facing the Non-Aligned Movement at present,” said the head of the DPRK delegation in a speech at the foreign ministerial meeting of the NAM which was held on October 9 on the sidelines of the High-Level Segment of the 75th Session of the UN General Assembly.

Success in the fight against the worldwide malignant virus can be expected only when all the countries assume responsibility for the life and safety of their own people and take thoroughgoing anti-pandemic measures, he noted.

A stable anti-epidemic situation has so far been maintained in the DPRK, thanks to the far-sighted measures of its government taking the people-first principle as its political ideal, he stated.

Although the country suffered heavy damage from successive natural disasters this year, he said, the government is doing its best to repair the damage from typhoons and floods and bring back a stable life to the people.

He asserted that though the challenges by hostile forces are persistent and difficulties are grave, no one can check the advance of the Korean people who are single-heartedly united around their leader, and they will surely achieve prosperity by dint of self-reliance and self-development.

Today in the international arena, he said, particular forces are getting more outrageous in their high-handed and arbitrary practices and power politics are growing rampant, thereby complicating international relations as the days go by. In particular, he stressed, the sovereignty of non-aligned countries is being violated and these countries are exposed to constant interference, threat and aggression.

The prevailing situation requires all member states to firmly adhere to the UN Charter and the principles of the NAM, whose main points are respect for sovereignty, noninterference and peaceful settlement of disputes, he said.

Referring to the fact that the 18th NAM summit meeting held in Azerbaijan’s Baku in October last year adopted the final document reflecting the stand of its member states to firmly unite and further strengthen the movement into an independent and peace-loving force against imperialism and war, he pointed to the need to promote solidarity in all domains of politics, the economy and culture, proactively rejuvenate the movement and raise joint voices in the international arena.

Rejecting the West’s interference in the internal affairs of other countries, economic blockade and pressure, he reaffirmed the DPRK’s support for and solidarity with the just struggle of developing countries for defending sovereignty and national interests, including Cuba, Venezuela, Syria and Palestine.
