Decades ago President Kim Il Sung directed the work to design the emblem of the Workers’ Party of Korea.
He said the WPK emblem should surely embrace the workers, farmers and intellectuals together to symbolically show that the Workers’ Party is the united party of the working people in the country, giving detailed instructions on how to produce the design.
True to his instructions, the artists completed a design of Party emblem in which a hammer, sickle and writing brush were painted to represent the workers, farmers and intellectuals.
One day the President saw the design and fixed the order of arrangement of the hammer, sickle and writing brush in the emblem, saying they should be crossed in the middle of their handles to better its composition and symbolize the solid unity of Korean working people including workers, farmers and intellectuals as well and that the hammer should be placed on the left side and the sickle on the right with the writing brush in the middle.
The writing brush must be positioned in the middle and it would look fine if it is a little higher than the other two, he said, explaining that its arrangement a little higher also means that in future all the workers and farmers should also acquire a high level of knowledge and culture to make a positive contribution to the building of a prosperous and civilized independent sovereign state.
