The drive to make effective use of various energy sources, including wind power, solar energy and geotherm, is now in full swing in our country.
Scientists and technicians of the natural energy institute under the State Academy of Sciences are making efforts to solve various sci-tech problems arising in developing and using natural energy sources, such as distributed electricity production system by means of natural energy, wind-driven generator with high capacity and efficiency, technology of developing geotherm under shallow layers, geothermal power plant, heat pump by means of sea water, highly-efficient methane fermentation accelerator, etc.
In the course of this, they developed a new type of water-wheel pump with great profitability. It can pump water up to a suitable place wherever there are rivers or streams with a current velocity of over one metre per second, without using electric power and fuel.
The Nampho Urban Designing Office and other units solved the issue of electric power by themselves by introducing electric-power supply system by means of solar energy.
The North Phyongan Provincial Power Distribution Station built a natural energy power plant with a large capacity by means of wind power and solar energy, thus contributing to the supply of electricity to important enterprises and dwelling houses in Sinuiju City.
The apartment houses and other public buildings in Ryomyong Street, an energy-saving and green street in the 21st century, are provided with illumination and heating systems by means of solar panels, geotherm and natural lighting.
In August last year, the Central Committee of the General Federation of Science and Technology of Korea sponsored the national exhibition of sci-tech achievements in the energy sector. On display there were the successes achieved in developing natural energy sources. A new type of wind-driven generator grabbed the limelight of visitors.
At present, our country is directing efforts to making rational use of tide power sources.
