Pyongyang, October 27 (KCNA) -- In Anak County, South Hwanghae Province of the DPRK, there is the mausoleum of Kogukwon, the 21st king of Koguryo (B.C. 277-A.D.668).
The mausoleum, called Tomb No. 3 in Anak, was built in the mid-4th century. It counts among the outstanding mural tombs dating back to Koguryo Kingdom for its scale and rich mural contents.
It shows the Korean nation's high cultural level in the Middle Ages as one of the relics representing the Eastern Culture at that time.
The tomb is about 33 meters from the north to the south, 30 meters from the east to the west and 6 meters high. And its chamber consists of door, corridor and so on.
Most walls of the chamber were built with plain stones and half-ton-heavy stone gates are opened and closed easily.
Many murals of this tomb showing the high pictorial technique and vivid depiction of figures at that time take the first place among the murals of ancient tombs in the country.
The mausoleum serves as a precious material in studying the military affairs, customs, architecture, painting, music, dance, etc. of Koguryo, a powerful state that existed for a thousand years. It is well preserved as a relic of national treasure thanks to the Workers' Party of Korea's policy for national heritage conservation.
UNESCO registered 63 Koguryo tombs including the mausoleum of King Kogukwon as world cultural heritages in July Juche 93 (2004). -0-
