The DPRK channels positive efforts into exploiting peloid resources.
They are distributed in over 80 areas across the country. Among them, muds in Lake Sijung and Kwangryang Bay are widely known at home and abroad.
Lake Sijung was originally a bay on the east coast of Korea and later became a lagoon as it was closed by a sandy bank. A sanatorium by the lake cures patients by applying the mud locally or to the whole body.
The pelitic mud is widely used in treating chronic joint diseases caused by various factors, chronic gastritis, postoperative sequels and nervous system disorders.
It is delivered to many sanatoria and hospitals across the country.
Sanatoria combine pelotherapy with balneotherapy in order to enhance its thermotherapeutical, apparatotherapeutical and chemotherapeutical effects.
The sulphur mud abundant in Kwangryang Bay on the west coast is rated as the world’s top-class peloid.
It is especially efficacious in activating metabolism, revivifying immunofunctions and treating motor skill disorders, nervous system disorders and inflammation.
There is a sulphur mud processing factory in the area which established a peloid processing technology and is equipped with industrial production processes.
It turns out more than 10 kinds of functional products with high nutritional and medicinal effects.
