World grows increasingly dependent on renewables

As there is a growing tendency for the average concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to further increase, many countries are setting the direction of economic development towards reducing CO2 emission.

China announced that it would minimize the carbon dioxide emission by 2030 and attain the goal for carbon neutralization before 2060. Last year, it expanded the scale of power generation facilities using renewable energy resources in a stable way, thus increasing the generating capacity by 8.4 percent as compared to the year before.

Nigeria strives to reduce its CO2 emission by 20 percent on its own and 45 percent in collaboration with international partners. It is going ahead with a plan for meeting 30 percent of the national demand for electric power with renewable energies in the next nine years, mainly by solar power generation.

Some 20 countries set new targets for carbon neutralization at a recent international meeting.

Many countries are putting efforts into making extensive use of renewable energy sources, regarding it as an important work for reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

Seven solar power stations were built in a province of Cuba to produce tens of thousands of kilowatts of electricity.

The country set the use of natural energies like solar heat and wind power as one of the goals for sustainable development to be achieved by 2030.

Iran presently produces over 800 megawatts of electricity from renewable energy sources such as solar heat, wind and water power, waste heat and biomass.

Costa Rica has a relatively high utility rate of renewable energy, which has been above 98 percent every year since 2015. In 2020, the country’s electricity output based on natural energy sources took up about 99.78 percent of the total power production. It plans to become the first country to generate 100 percent of electricity using renewables.

Such efforts of the international community for harnessing renewable energy sources will be accelerated further.
