Early last March, over 140 young men and women in Nampho City volunteered to do farm work in the countryside.
“Even if they have different careers, occupations and aspirations, those who have volunteered to work at the countryside have the same intention to achieve their ideal in the place where the country demands,” said an official of the youth league committee in Nampho City.
All the volunteers have a determination to carry on the baton of former generations, who defended the country during the Fatherland Liberation War and gave birth to the Chollima movement from the ashes after the war in the period of the Chollima great upsurge, he added.
“Nampho City is associated with many stories about fine young people including the first woman captain of the ship Young Heroine, Daughter of the Workers’ Party of Korea and ‘girl mother’ of Kangson. I’ve volunteered to work at the countryside with determination to dedicate my youthful days to the country like them,” said volunteer So Won Sik.
As he worked at the radio broadcasting committee of Nampho City after graduating from Kim Il Sung University, he decided to add brilliance to his life on the road of implementing the decision the Eighth Congress of the WPK.
Among volunteers, there are four brothers of Choe Ro Yong who worked at the food administration station in Hanggu District, Nampho City. They participated in the construction of the Paektusan Hero Youth Power Station and the rebuilding of Samjiyon and were awarded high official commendations for their distinguished services after finishing their middle school courses.
They can pride themselves on having spent a fulfilling prime of youth even if they do not volunteer to work at the countryside. However, they decided to advance to rural communities, rather than desired universities and workplaces.
Kim Chung Song, who had worked as instructor of the youth league committee in Ryonggang County, Nampho City, and his wife also volunteered for service at a farm.
“I was anxious about a thought that I have to do farm work at an unfamiliar place. But I’ve made up my mind to volunteer together with my husband who said that youth officials should lead other young people,” said Kim’s wife.
At present, the number of young volunteers for key industry sectors of the national economy and agricultural front is on a steady increase.
