There is a technician called the master of developing new products at the Moranbong Automation Appliances Factory in Phyongchon District, Pyongyang.
He is Ryang Won Chol, chief of the industrial technology laboratory of the factory.
“With wide-ranging knowledge of materials, mechanical processing, making of equipment and electronics, he makes a great contribution to the technical development and modernization of equipment in the factory,” said senior engineer Cha Thae Song.
Having interest in electronic automation from his childhood, Ryang has been working at the factory for over 30 years after finishing a middle school course as he had desired.
“When I started my career at this factory, I realized that I had little knowledge in this field. Deep knowledge and techniques were required to handle skilfully sophisticated measuring instruments and equipment or produce advanced measuring instruments as we wanted,” Ryang recalled.
Some years later, he enrolled in the study-while-you-work system to build the tower of knowledge. After a few years later, he graduated from the faculty of electronics at Phyongchon College of Technology with top honours.
Air-zinc battery was his first invention.
The battery for lighting, which was developed at a go, was in great demand at that time.
Later, he conducted research into precision measuring instruments in the temperature control system, thus making temperature indicators and thermoregulators.
He brought out digital thermoregulators with high precision in measurement as compared to before and less errors, and concrete intensity measuring devices that can check the quality and stabilization of buildings. The latter is drawing great interest of experts and builders.
He also invented dozens of kinds of measuring devices, including digital manometer, dynamic balancing machine and radiation pyrometer, and introduced them into many units.
He has so far obtained two patents and dozens of certificates of invention.
