The construction of 10,000 flats is under way in the capital city Pyongyang amid concern of the whole country. Starting from this year, 10,000 flats will be built every year until 2025 and 50,000 flats in Pyongyang within the coming five years.

On March 23, the respected

Kim Jong Un

made a significant speech at the ground-breaking ceremony of the project for building 10,000 flats in Pyongyang.

He said: Building 50,000 modern flats in the capital city Pyongyang is something our Party has long intended, made preparations for and aspired to do in order to provide the citizens of the capital city with more cultured and stable living conditions.

To tell the truth, to undertake this large-scale project in the circumstances of today, when the challenges and difficulties are harsher than ever before, was something beyond imagination.

Having accepted this colossal project willingly as an honorable revolutionary task which it must implement without fail however difficult the conditions and environment may be, the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea reaffirmed its plan of architectural development and construction policy on the principle of applying the people-first principle more thoroughly.

It redefined the orientation and order of construction, ensured that a large share of the total state budget for construction was allocated for the construction of houses and, on the basis of plans and preparations to this end, made the construction of 50,000 flats a policy at its Eighth Congress.

Building 50,000 flats in Pyongyang was a long-cherished desire of the WPK.

Last year, too,

Kim Jong Un

set the construction of a modern general hospital the WPK has long planned and desired as the most important and worthwhile task of struggle to which primary efforts should be paid.

At the ground-breaking ceremony of the hospital, he made a speech and broke ground first to signal the start of the project. He also visited the site of construction at its height.

For the WPK regarding the people-first principle as its nature and sacred political creed, the work for the people was the most urgent one that it should shoulder and undertake without fail

in

whatever conditions.

So when the whole world was seized with uneasiness due to the rapid spread of the malignant disease, the construction of the Pyongyang General Hospital for improving the people's health started and so did the huge housing construction this year.

Towards the end of this year, the characteristic multistoried and skyscraping apartment houses in the architectural formation plan will be built and a new street for the people will be formed.

The large-scale modern streets to be built within the coming five years, expanding the urban areas of Pyongyang to the direction of east, west and north, will change Pyongyang, the capital of our state, more splendidly.
