On May 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated war veterans, who defended their native places, children and country by defeating fascism and won an absolute victory in the war, at the military parade held in Red Square of Moscow in celebration of the 76th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War.
He declared that he would never forget the great exploits the Soviet people performed by waging an arduous, heroic and self-sacrificing struggle for victory while uniting firmly during the grimmest days.
To the tune of song Just War, an honour guard marched holding the flag of victory which had been put up on top of the building of the Reichstag in 1945 and the Russian flags.
The military parade was given by officers, commissioned officers and soldiers of combined and other units, students of military schools at all levels and service personnel from the ministry of emergency, national guards and federal security bureau.
Following T-34 tanks, which are regarded as a symbol of victory, columns of latest tanks, multiple launch rocket systems, self-propelled artillery, different missile systems and other military technical equipment rolled past the platform.
Latest combat fighter jets including strategic bombers, attack helicopters, aircraft loaded with hypersonic missiles made a flight in the sky above the square.
After the military parade, the Russian President laid a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldiers near the Kremlin walls together with war veterans and students of military schools.
To mark the holiday, military parade, photo show, concert and a variety of celebratory events took place in major cities and there were firework displays.
