For Development of Stockbreeding

Developing stockbreeding is an important undertaking directly related to the improvement of the people's living. The Eighth Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea stressed the need to make a sustained development of stockbreeding. Breed is important in stockbreeding as seed in farming. The stockbreeding sector, regarding the issue of breed as a main key, is actively rearing new good breeds with high breeding coefficient and resistance to disease, which consume less feed but grow fast. In particular, it is directing efforts to rearing breeds which can give benefits in a short span of time with less grain feed. The work to create grass fields is consistently done to solve the feed issue. According to the geographical characteristics of the areas concerned, artificial and natural grass fields are created to widely cultivate "Aeguk" grass, Pistia stratiotes and other feed grass with high productivity and nutritive value. Stockbreeding bases of different scales including the one in the Sepho area of Kangwon Province built into a large-scale stockbreeding base under the leadership of the Party, have created grass fields a lot and are increasing the unit-area feed grass production. Domestic animals are raised in a scientific and rational way, and advanced breeding methods and good experiences widely generalized. The anti-epizootic work is life and soul of stockbreeding. The anti-epizootic facilities have been fully equipped and thorough measures taken to prevent all kinds of diseases which may break out in each period, reducing the death rate of the domestic animals and pushing ahead with smooth livestock production. In the Democratic People's Republic of Korea domestic animals are reared not only at the stockbreeding bases but also at a lot of institutions, industrial establishments, farms and households. Especially, the rabbit raising is conducted as an all-people campaign. It is the unshakable determination of the WPK to make a breakthrough in solving the people's food, clothing and housing problems at any cost and effect tangible changes and innovations, which will benefit the people in reality, in the new five-year plan period.
