There was a volleyball match between the newly-formed female volleyball team players of the Korean People’s Army Sports Club and generals and commanding officers of the Supreme Headquarters in the presence of President Kim Il Sung in early May Juche 41 (1952).
Whenever women volleyball players succeeded in fine strike and slight touch, the President gave a big hand, saying that was good, slight touch was the same as sudden attack in battle and that the technique should be encouraged in future volleyball games.
When the game was over, he called the players.To the captain, he said she was taller, good at jumping and had strong spikes and underlined the need to improve the technique of all players to sucha level. And he also gave a pep-talk to another player, saying that she properly received and gave back the ball persistently and that such self-sacrificing fortitude and high responsibility were needed so as to receive difficult balls and fulfil her responsibility.
We should overpower world aces in the sports field and demonstrate the spirit of heroic Korea to the whole world, he said, shaking the players’ hands warmly as he referred to the need to improve volleyball skills and techniques by persistently pressing on with training.
