More than 600 Heroes

Date: 25/07/2021 | Source: Voice of Korea (EN) | Read original version at source

More than 600 heroes were produced during the Fatherland Liberation War between 1950 and 1953. Five of them are Twice Heroes of the Republic and 20 Labour Heroes. Of 15 heroines 13 are Heroines of the Republic and two Labour Heroines.

Tens of persons were awarded the title of hero in their teens and over 420 in their twenties.

The Fatherland Liberation War was a showdown between rifle and atomic bomb. Nobody thought that the Korean people would win the war.

But the Korean army and people won a brilliant victory by displaying peerless self-sacrificing spirit and mass heroism under the guidance of the great leader Kim Il Sung.

There is a hall of heroes in the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum in the capital city of Pyongyang.

Lecturer of the museum Ju Hyang Hui says:

"This hall of heroes in the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum displays the photos of more than 600 heroes.

They include a scout who performed brilliant feats with bold and superb reconnaissance activities, a nurse who threw herself under the enemy's tank with a bundle of hand grenades and a soldier of an automobile corps who reliably ensured the transport to the battle fronts.

And a hero coast artilleryman contained the enemy's attack involving hundreds of warships and lots of planes with four pieces of coast artillery for three days in the battle to defend the Wolmi Islet and thus made an active contribution to realizing the strategic intention of the supreme headquarters."

The hero soldiers smashed the aggressors in the self-sacrificing spirit.

They felt through their life experience that the country liberated by the great leader Kim Il Sung is more precious than their lives.

They firmly believed that the glory, happiness and pride of their life lie in national defence.

The wartime heroes were ordinary working people in the past.

They were plain and simple in peacetime, but performed undying feats to shine forever in the history of the country during the hard-fought war. Now, they remain alive in the memory of the country and the people.
