The Central Mining Research Institute under the State Academy of Sciences has achieved successes in scientific research efforts that are conducive to the development of the mining industry.
A typical example is the development of a pneumatic flotation machine, also known as air power loader.
“It is an international trend to make flotation machines large by applying the method of adding air from the outside and, accordingly, we developed a pneumatic flotation machine technology,” said Jong Chol, chief of the institute, adding they are now trying to extend the range of its application.
According to him, ore dressing plant No. 3 of the Komdok Mining Complex, one of the country’s largest nonferrous metal production bases, has been equipped with lead and zinc dressing processes using pneumatic flotation machines, saving electricity and labour by more than 50 percent, lowering the reagent consumption standard to less than 80 percent and increasing the actual extraction rate of dressing by over two percent.
The air power loader was also introduced into the Yongyu Mine and Hyesan Youth Mine, among others.
The institute has established a metal manganese production method based on low-grade wad and contributed to ensuring domestic production of ferromanganese.
Besides, it developed a variety of efficient functional additives like water activator, anion generating additive for paint, electromagnetic field screening material and medicinal stone from tourmaline which is abundant in the country.
These products are drawing public attention as they can help protect the environment and promote people’s health with the mysterious effectiveness in accelerating biological growth and the purifying, refining and anion-generating functions.
