President Kim Il Sung devoted his whole life for the sake of the rising generation and the future of the country.

Saying that children are the pillars of the future, he loved them very much.

In March Juche 25 (1936) in the days of the anti-Japanese armed struggle, he went to Maanshan to meet Children’s Corps members who were suffering from illness, cold and hunger, as they were falsely accused of relations with the “Minsaengdan” (a pro-Japanese organization). At that time, he had 20 yuan , the money his mother Kang Pan Sok had earned penny by penny through her needle work and washing on hire and bequeathed to him. He wanted to keep it forever as a token of her love for him, but he appropriated the money for making clothes for the children.

By loving the children we immediately mean that we love the future. Thanks to the efforts of these children, our country will be built into a garden, which is bright with flowers. Let us take better care of the younger generation and train them for the bright future of our country and humanity.

With this ennobling view on the rising generation, he ensured that Children’s Corps schools were built in the guerrilla bases and free education enforced for children even in the difficult conditions during the anti-Japanese war.

During the Fatherland Liberation War (1950-1953) he was informed of the fact that a soldier’s wife had lost her three-year-old second son on her way of retreat. Noting that we are fighting for the future shedding blood, he took a measure to find the child.

He put forward children as the kings of the country and spared nothing for them.

Right after the country’s liberation (August 15, 1945), he visited the people in Chilgol of the then Ha-ri, Ryongsan sub-county, Taedong County, South Phyongan Province. Noting that schools should be built in larger numbers for the future of the country and the rising generation, he chose the site for a school and specified the ways for its construction.

In February Juche 35 (1946), he saw to it that the question of pencil production was discussed as an agenda item at the First Session of the Provisional People’s Committee of North Korea and took a relevant measure for its settlement, and that school things, experimental apparatuses and teaching aids were provided to the full.

He made sure that a palace for children was built on Jangdae Hill, an excellent place in the capital city of Pyongyang. Visiting the site when its construction was in full swing, he said all the best building materials in the world, including marble and diamond, should be provided for the project to build a marvellous palace. As a result, the Pyongyang Students and Children’s Palace with a total floor space of 50 000 square metres was built as a comprehensive base for extracurricular education with rooms for various arts and sports groups, an auditorium, gymnasium and library.

The universal 11-year compulsory education was enforced, and school uniforms and things were supplied free of charge to children across the country and children's camps and children's palaces built in the picturesque places of the country. These are unthinkable apart from Kim Il Sung ’s boundless love for children.

He wrote as follows in his memoirs With the Century :

A revolution which does not love and care for the children has no future. It is foolish to expect that such a revolution will attain its glorious ideal .

Still today, the Korean people cherish deep in their minds the benevolent image of Kim Il Sung who enjoyed New Year performance given by children every year and wished them a rosy future, saying that he was very happy to be with them.
