Chairman Kim Jong Il was elected as general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) on October 8, Juche 86 (1997).
With his election as its top leader, the WPK could dynamically advance the cause of socialism only along the road of victory without any deviation even in manifold hardships caused by the imperialist allied forces' anti-DPRK moves.
The greatest feat performed by the Chairman who set a world-historic example of party building in the era of independence was that with his distinguished ideo-theoretical wisdom, he provided the vital guidelines for building a revolutionary party and its activities for the world progressives aspiring after socialism.
His famous work "On the Fundamentals of Revolutionary Party Building", published in October 1992, is an encyclopedic document that clearly teaches how to build a party as the general staff of the revolution and enhance its leadership role. Expounded in the work are the basic principles and ways for building a revolutionary party of Juche, including the problems of firmly establishing the oneness of ideology and leadership in the party, strengthening the party's unity and cohesion and realizing the party's leadership over the revolution and construction.
The Chairman also made public lots of works like "The Historical Lesson in Building Socialism and the General Line of Our Party", "Abuses of Socialism Are Intolerable" and "Socialism Is a Science" to give the banner of struggle and treasured sword of victory to the world progressive parties and peoples.
He not only provided all the revolutionary parties of the world with the ideo-theoretical guidelines but also wisely guided them to struggle in unity with the common action programme.
Adopted in Pyongyang in April 1992 was the Pyongyang Declaration that crystallized the principles, tasks and ways for defending and advancing the cause of socialism. It was a historic declaration heralding the new start of the world socialist movement.
The Pyongyang Declaration, signed by more than 300 progressive political parties of the world until now, has dealt a telling blow to the imperialists' anti-socialist moves and greatly encouraged the revolutionary peoples in the struggle for rebuilding socialism.
