October 12 was the 73rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the DPRK and the Russian Federation.
Since then, the two countries have strengthened friendly ties while closely cooperating with each other in politics, the economy, culture and many other fields on the principle of independence, equality and reciprocity.
President Kim Il Sung paid the first official visit to the Soviet Union in 1949 to conclude the agreement on economic and cultural cooperation, the first agreement between the two countries. After that, he frequently met leaders of the USSR to consolidate the friendly relations.
Chairman Kim Jong Il visited the Russian Federation on several occasions, thereby ushering in a new era of friendship. Therefore, the DPRK-Russia Joint Declaration and Moscow Declaration were adopted to serve as a historic milestone for propelling the development of relations between the two countries and securing world peace and security.
Consequently, travel and contact at various levels got animated between the two countries as they exchanged views on bilateral relationship and international affairs on a broad scale.
The friendly ties have reached a new higher stage underpinned by the intimate relations between the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un and President Vladimir Putin.
Kim Jong Un officially visited Russia and met with Putin for the first time in April 2019 in order to boost the bilateral ties as required by a new era and a new situation.
At the meeting, they agreed on the specific direction and measures for bolstering up mutual understanding, confidence, friendship and cooperation and promoting the development of the bilateral relations in the new century and reached a full consensus of views on immediate matters of cooperation through earnest discussions.
It was a historic event which is of great importance in further consolidating and soundly developing the ties that have a long history and tradition.
At present, the friendly and cooperative ties continue to develop in conformity with mutual interests and requirements of the new era.
The fraternal Russian people are now waging a dynamic struggle for building a powerful prosperous country. Despite the continued challenges at home and abroad, Russia is making positive efforts to stabilize and improve the country’s economy and the people’s livelihood, build up its defence capabilities and safeguard its strategic interests. It is also expanding and developing cooperation and exchanges with many countries while enhancing its role in regional and international organizations.
The Korean people are very pleased with the remarkable successes the Russian people have achieved with diligent and sincere efforts, as if they were their own.
The DPRK will continue to strengthen the strategic and traditional friendly ties with Russia on a new high level to meet the requirements of the new century.
