October 17 this year marks the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Down-with-Imperialism Union (DIU).
Young Kim Il Sung founded the DIU, the first vanguard organization of a new generation of revolutionaries, on October 17 1926 with the resolve to win back the independence of his country occupied by the Japanese imperialists and build a new Korea where the people are masters.
The immediate task of the DIU was to defeat Japanese imperialism and achieve the liberation and independence of Korea and its final objective was to build socialism and communism in Korea and, furthermore, destroy imperialism as a whole and build communism throughout the world.
The formation of the DIU made it possible for the Korean revolution to embark on a new road by breaking with the old generation who were contaminated with flunkeyism and dogmatism, and marked a turning point in revolutionary party building.
The programme of the Workers’ Party of Korea came from the DIU, which provided the principle of party building and activities and trained the backbone for the founding of the Party.
The DIU opened up a new era of history and gave birth to the era of independence when the masses of the people carry on the revolution independently and creatively by holding their destiny in their hands.
By firmly inheriting the ideal and tradition of the DIU, the WPK could defeat two strong imperialist powers in the arduous and protracted road of revolution, carry out the two stages of social revolution and build people-centred socialism.
Today, all policies and activities of the WPK invariably embody the spirit of independence steadily upheld by the DIU and the sovereignty and dignity of the country and nation are fully demonstrated thanks to the WPK’s independent politics.
