It is the consistent principle and mode of practice of the Workers’ Party of Korea to defend national dignity and build a prosperous state by national efforts.

With invariable conviction that self-reliance and the independent national economy are the basis of the existence of Korean-style socialism, the power of advance and development and the eternal lifeline of the Korean revolution, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un ushered in a new era of self-respect and prosperity on this land.

After the demise of Chairman Kim Jong Il, hostile forces intensified their manoeuvres to bring the DPRK to its knees and deprive the Korean people of their rights to sovereignty, existence and development.

However, with the firm conviction that the advance and development of socialism and the victory of the revolution are guaranteed by powerful military power, the WPK and the Koreans waged an indomitable struggle to build the most powerful strength so as to successfully achieve the great historic cause of the nation for upbuilding self-defensive capabilities, which could not be fulfilled even in 20 or 30 years by conventional way of thinking, in a few years.

Great progress was made in the efforts to make the Korean People’s Army an elite force and strong army. The revolutionary armed forces reliably defended the country’s territory, airspace and territorial waters and controlled the enemy’s provocative threats, thus reliably safeguarding the peaceful environment of socialist construction.

The military parade in celebration of the Eighth Congress of the WPK and the Defence Development Exhibition which was held to mark the 76th founding anniversary of the WPK served as a significant occasion demonstrating the great might of the DPRK.

Holding higher the banner of self-reliance over the past decade, Kim Jong Un continued his field guidance to further consolidate the foundations of the country’s independent economy and provide the people with affluent and civilized life.

While visiting an exhibition of machinery and equipment, he taught again the truth that self-reliance is the only way out, saying that we should strengthen our own force by relying on our efforts, technologies and resources and uphold the revolutionary spirit of opening up the path ahead.

Amid the full display of inexhaustible development potential of the independent economy, the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance and fighting tradition, there came in succession the home-made aircraft, trolley bus, tramcar, metro car and new types of other vehicles and machinery and equipment.

Model and standard factories in the era of knowledge economy have been built across the country, production systems of iron, fibre and fertilizer that rely on domestic raw materials and fuel established and power stations built in many places.

Wonderful service facilities for cultural and leisure activities for the people were built everywhere, including the Mirim Riding Club, Munsu Water Park, Masikryong Ski Resort, Yangdok Hot Spring Resort and Yonphung Scientists Holiday Camp, new streets built every year in the face of manifold trials and new dwelling houses for afflicted people, who suffered natural damage, built in large numbers.

The past ten years were a period of excitement which demonstrated to the world the daring spirit of the WPK which protects the people’s demands and realizes their rights to live and develop independently.
