The gold painting "The Eagle" is a typical one of Ri Jing, a leading gold painter in the 17th century.
Ri had developed the Korean painting in the traditional gold-paint style. He depicted flowers and animals well with gold paint without formality and consequently contributed to enriching the pictorial mood of the Korean artists.
He liked to draw birds so much from his childhood that he even drew a bird with his tears when he was getting whipped on the calf by his father when he was a child.
For that reason there are many bird paintings among his gold paintings.
All of his paintings are beautiful and moreover they vividly describe the feature of the birds and the birds in the pictures look like as if they were alive.
The gold painting "The Eagle" belongs to his album of eight gold paintings.
The painting depicted an eagle standing on a trunk clutching it with its strong foot. It preserved the feature of an eagle including a fierce eye, a curved beak, cuspidate wings, sharp-edged talons, etc.
In addition it displays a splendid harmony with gold-dust painting on a deep blue ground and fluently presents the shade of color and the strong and the weak of lines.
