The Unsavory Past Should Not Be Forgotten

Date: 13/11/2021 | Source: Ministry of Foreign Affairs (EN) | Read original version at source

It has been reported that the German frigate “Bayern” will join forces with the United States and Japan to stage joint military exercises in the waters around the Korean peninsula in mid-November, and then move on to take part in the so-called maritime surveillance operation for implementing the United Nations Security Council sanctions against the DPRK.

That Germany is involved in the surveillance operation aimed at the DPRK by dispatching its warship even to the far-off Asia-Pacific region is an open hostile act taking sides with the U.S. in its hostile policy against the DPRK, and it is a flagrant violation of our sovereignty.

Germany provoked the other, doing its level best to implement the UNSC sanctions against the DPRK. Not content with this, it is trying to even throw down the gauntlet to us by physical means of dispatching its warship. This is nothing short of an outright provocation.

Even though Germany tries to wrap its actions in silk with words that “it tries to make its contribution to ensuring peace and security in the Asia-Pacific region”, it can never hide its ulterior motives to nose its way into the region to realize its sinister political and military objectives.

It is really ridiculous enough to find that no sooner had the U.S. stretched its tentacles to the Asia-Pacific than Germany and other European countries follow suit in their bids to show off their existence by dispatching warships to the region.

If those countries think that they could enhance their international image just by sending in warships to the Asia-Pacific region under the pretext of “safeguarding international law”, it is a big miscalculation, and the consequences would be different from what they expect to achieve.

Especially, those countries, which have the unsavoury past in the last century, would be well-advised to practice self-control in their overseas military operations.

Any military action is apt to cause irreversible damage to the hot spot which is already fraught with tension. If the situation gets out of control in the future, Germany won’t be able to evade its responsibility from the consequences arising therefrom.

Countries in the region are keeping a sharp eye on Germany in its abnormal military moves which are occurring in their neighborhood.
